Dolly Madison Fruit Pies are another thing altogether.
Another thing I recall is a soda called "Mr. Pibb", which was like a knock-off Dr. Pepper. I've never seen it here in the D.P. capital.
My Great Grandmother, who passed away a few years ago, would always send my sister and I a box of Goo Goo Clusters every X-mas. Funny thing was, I'd always forget about them until my mother handed me the (obviously) hand wrapped package with my Great Grandmother's wobbly script on the tag. They were a constant reminder of her, and now that she's gone, every X-mas seems to lack that quality.
When I was back in Nashville for my Grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary, I picked up a few boxes, for posterity's sake.
"You'll have to wait a while." "Then I'll have a Chocodile."
I think Hostess just simply stopped selling them in most of the country.

Long Live The Chocodiles!!!!!!
While I have no tangible proof, I would vehemently argue that Chocodiles do not use the same cake as twinkies (I don't like twinkies, yuk). As further proof, compare the pitiful amount of creamy filling in a twinkie against the generous amounts of filling in a Chocodile. Not to mention the filling in a Chocodile is oh-so much creamier. Ummmmm. I'm going to go have my last Chocodile.
No wait, I think I'll go put it up for auction on Ebay! I'll be rich!
I found none while searching on eBay.
"Speaking of Devil's Food Twinkies made me think of Chocodiles. I've mentioned them before, and because of that, PCJM gets a ton of mail from folks wanting to know where they can find them. Kim Murphy of Interstate Brands (parent of Hostess) writes to share the real deal. She says "Chocodiles are currently produced at three bakeries: St. Louis (for distribution in Missouri, southern Illinois, and Paducah, Ky area); Denver (for distribution in parts of Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming); and Los Angeles (for distribution in parts of California and Arizona)." So there you go -- if you're in one of those areas, start keeping your eyes peeled around the bakery racks, if you're not, hit up a faraway friend. (Check the Hostess outlets in the above named areas, according to an earlier tipster.)"
This was about 7 years ago, but at that time, she also included instructions on having bulk quantities drop shipped.
haha. I'm not as psycho as I sound. Guess some of the comments I was reading rubbed off on me. I, too, am in desperate search for these wonderful, delicious, awesome tasting chocodiles. AND DON'T ANYBODY COMPARE THEM TO THE TWINKIE!!! THERE IS NO COMPARISON! Hostess, PULEAZE bring them back! or tell me where I can go buy some, say, in the bulk, about around 20 of them. For now. Please, I say.
Chocodiles are NOT chocolate-covered twinkies! The cake is white, not yellow, and has none of the overly-sweet taste. And they are wonderful, as long as they don't sit on the shelf too long--they get dry easily (make sure to freeze them).
Jakki :)
all you fat-asses should move to Ca. and get them for FREE!!!
They grow on trees here, like apples... ROFLMAO

They cost $0.25 and come in boxes of 10. However they only ship overnight. It ended up that shipping will be approx $40 for $10 worth of Chocodiles.
The things you do during xmas for friends.
I saw them again in Alburquerque, NM last June and once in a Publix in Atlanta in '99--just once! Yes, they could ocassionally be dry, but I miss them so.
